Aries full Moon 2025
The Aries full Moon is exact at 14°08’ on Monday, October 6 at 10:47 pm CST. I’m surprising myself by saying that this Aries full Moon feels like an energetic reprieve after the intensity of Eclipse Season that we’ve just been through. Were you able to identify any patterns that the last couple of eclipses have revealed to you upon closer inspection? I hope so! It is truly fascinating what can be uncovered through the quality of time that the eclipses present to us. If you are of a studious disposition, you can go even farther back to previous eclipse seasons to see what has come up for you personally at those times and try to tease out any common threads. It can be quite magical, and a real opportunity to shed some light on the inner workings of your own fabulous self and of the wondrous world within which we are so fortunate to coexist.
Speaking of shedding light, what about this Aries full SUPER MOON? Every time I say SUPER MOON I like to do it in the voice of Harry when he yells out the van fly. Try it, it’s fun!
SUPER MOON
A Super Moon is closer to Earth, and therefore appears even more stupendous and magical due to its increased brightness and seemingly larger size. Kind of like seeing a pro or semi-pro athlete in real life. Woah!
Mars is in Scorpio, and is the ruler of this full Moon in Aries. Mars isn’t in conversation with any other planets at the time of this full Moon chart, but he is in his rulership in Scorpio, so perhaps this could be part of the reason that this full Moon isn’t feeling quite as intense as expected? Perhaps. The Sun and Moon themselves are in an opposition during any full Moon, and with this full Moon in Aries and Sun in Libra, they are both widely squaring Jupiter in Cancer, which I feel could go either way on the intensity spectrum. Jupiter in Cancer could lend a larger emotional response to this full Moon, maybe especially if you already have a strong water influence in your natal chart, or, this square to Jupiter from the Sun and Moon could possibly be lending a more mellow feel to this full Moon. Maybe it could be a both/and situation - the emotions flow easily and feel somewhat outsized, but with the Scorpio Mars ruling this lunation, maybe it will be the cathartic emotional flush that is essential for healing properly during this full Moon. I like that, let’s lean into that hypothesis.
Shall we revisit our old friend the outer planet small talent triangle? Who, if anybody, is catalyzing that energy at this full Moon? Well, look, it’s our slippery friend Mercury, newly in Scorpio no less. Mercury at 00°41’ Scorpio is at the apex of a yod formation with Uranus at 01°04’ Gemini and Neptune at 00°23’ Pisces, and Mercury is also squaring Pluto in Aquarius at 01°22’. What can Mercury be up to this time? What glimmers of opportunity may be illuminated for us at this full Moon relating to this configuration?
Let’s again ask ourselves the questions association with this ongoing outer planet configuration.
How can we as individuals calmly absorb experiences into our consciousness, with the aim of gaining knowledge and skills, while growing by remaining adaptable? This growth that we achieve by remaining adaptable may gradually develop into a distinctive or specialized talent over time. What does that look like to you? Is the full Moon illuminating something for you at this time related to this idea?
What about that yod, whose energy we learned from Karen Hamaker-Zondag is restless due to the planets influencing each other in irritating ways since they are all in different elements (Fire, Earth, Air or Water) and modalities (Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable), and they don’t fully comprehend one another’s expression of the planetary energies. However, as Karen H-Z pointed out, if we as humans learn to handle these discrepant energies, accept the inevitable unrest in ourselves and in the world, remain flexible (even when things go wrong, as things going wrong can sometimes be a blessing in disguise), and be courageous enough to live our own lives while keeping our minds open, there is tremendous creative potential in the energy of the yod. Is trickster Mercury in Scorpio glimmering an opportunity your way of what that tremendous creative potential is for you? Catch him if you can!
Since at the full Moon we typically think of it as is an excellent time to release what no longer serves us, we could think about what we need to release in order to take advantage of any opportunities to further any creative potentials that may arise in our world or psyche at this time. This may be an emotion that is holding us back - fear, grief, guilt, shame, etc. or perhaps it’s a conditioned response - a duty to other more mundane pursuits, or other people’s needs, or we may feel that creativity is a frivolous endeavor that we are somehow not worthy of undertaking due to the way in which we were raised, or due to negative self-talk that we habitually engage in. It could be related to the adage “perfection is the enemy of good”, or it could be simply good old fashioned torpor that we need to release to get going on that creative project we’ve been mulling. Could be anything, really, see what comes up for you.
When releasing during the full Moon, I like to make it a thing. It doesn’t have to be exactly at the time of the full Moon, it can be any time in the day or night leading up to it, which is typically what I prefer, but do what you are able, and what feels right for you. If you miss the night before, do it the night of or even the day or night after, as long as the Moon still appears full in the sky, I think the symbology is there for you to work with. Take some time and create a sacred space for yourself and whoever else would like to make it a thing with you. This doesn’t have to be elaborate. Simply sitting quietly and focusing on your breath with lightly closed eyes and spine as erect as possible, or focusing on the sounds in your environment and intentionally taking this moment to connect with yourself and with the nurturing energy of the Moon, which I like to think of as symbolizing our collective Cosmic Mother. If you have a meditative practice, feel free to incorporate that into your full Moon practice, but let the Moon guide you, don’t get too far into your solar self of Doing, but allow yourself to simply exist in your lunar self of Being. If you like to really get into your ritual practice, please do make it as elaborate as you wish. At the end of my full Moon practice, I like to make a list of what I’m releasing. I simply write “I release:” at the top of a piece of paper, and then I write down everything that came up during my quiet time with myself. And then I burn that mofo! Safely and mindfully into my little metal cauldron. Let’s not set our selves or homes alight please. It really is very freeing to watch the smoke from the burning list curl up into the ethers. Some folks like to then incorporate the water element by tossing the cooled ashes into a body of water afterwards, but I’m happy to scatter them to the winds, figuring they’ll make it to water someday. COOLED ashes, mind you, ok? And there, just like that you have created some space for your higher Self to lead you on to your highest and best expression of yourself. I’m a big proponent of gratitude, and I like to give thanks at the end of my practice, so give thanks to whatever Deity you feel is guiding you. If you are PTSD from CCD or whatever other childhood teachings were foisted upon you, and don’t like the thought of Deities, simply give thanks to yourself for making this time to connect with yourself and give thanks to the Universe for coexisting with you.
Because as my yoga teacher Jaki Nett likes to say that everything comes back to yoga, we’ll tie this practice into yoga philosophy, wherein which one of the eight limbs of yoga are the Niyamas. The Niyamas are virtues or individual disciplines which calm the disturbed mind. One of these five Niyamas is known as Isvara Pranidhana, or “surrender to the Divine of all our actions”. In surrendering, we allow for the Divine to work its own magic, co-creating with us.
