Libra Full Moon 2026
Pink Moon Spring Beauty
The Libra full Moon is exact at 12°21’ on Wednesday, April 1, at 9:11 pm CST. The Sun is at 12°21’ of Aries, opposing the Moon in Libra, and both the Sun and Moon are square to Jupiter in Cancer at 15°51’. As we know, full Moons can already be a time of high emotion, and with Jupiter in Cancer square to the Sun and Moon, we may see an expansion of that high emotion. Jupiter is not only expansion, but expansion and integration, so we may experience emotions that are now ready to be integrated into ourselves at a deeper level. Mercury in Pisces at 14°39’ is also trining that Jupiter, so it may be that those emotions will be able to be translated and integrated into our thought processes in a way that feels easy and natural.
Jupiter also represents our search for meaning, our aspirations, our openness to grace, our impulse to creatively author our life story, our ability to see the big picture, and our impulse to connect with the divine through that most elusive of experiences, faith. Jupiter is in Cancer, and is ruled by the Moon, who happens to be full in Libra right now. So while this can turn our emotions up full blast (or wide open, as some fellow river rats who were from Paducah, Kentucky would say back in the day), can we lean into letting our openness to grace be wide open, too? Or perhaps our impulse to creatively author our life story, can that be wide open? Can we allow for this high energy to turn our faith up all the way, and to allow ourselves to understand that we are part of an ensouled Universe, and that our highest, most authentic Self is calling us forward into our most meaningful expression of ourself? Can we open that energy up so that it’s wide open, at least for a time at this full Moon in Libra?
This Libra Moon is ruled by Venus, and Venus is currently located at 02°59’ Taurus. Both Libra and Taurus are ruled by Venus, but the expression of Venus differs in both signs. First, let’s go over the similarities: Venus is always about how we connect with others, how we relate, and how we experience beauty. Venus is also about our likes and dislikes (attraction AND repulsion), what we value, and our approach to pleasure. Venus is about sweetness, romance, art, beauty, and aesthetics, and Venus is present and doing her thing in artsy places and projects, in relationships, in places where we connect with others, and when we try to find common ground with others. Some life-affirming and sustainable energetics of Venus are love and romance, giving and receiving pleasure, experiencing comfort, the experience of beauty and all of its expressions (creating, spreading, exuding), and creating rapport and connection. Some less life-affirming and unsustainable energetics of Venus are vanity, insecurity, codependence, manipulation, indulgence, laziness, fickleness, and leading people on.
In Libra, Venus has an expression that is more akin to Aphrodite Urania aka “heavenly love”. Libra is a Cardinal Air sign, and is concerned with propriety, refinement, and social connection. My brilliant astrology colleague Sarah reminded us recently that Dr. Safron Rossi taught us that Libra is sensitive, but not in the same way that water signs are sensitive emotionally; Libra is sensitive to the environment. In the same way that you can sometimes walk into a room and feel the heaviness or lightness in the air, this is the way that Libra is sensitive. Libra is also sensitive to fairness and justice (the constellation is the scales after all) and they can Spidey sense when the scales are imbalanced. It seems we sometimes forget that Libra is a Cardinal sign, and when there is an imbalance in the environment, Libra can be seemingly uncharacteristically forceful while they initiate restoring balance. This can come about in the face of true (or perceived) injustice, or simply in the form of playing devil’s advocate, maybe just for the helluvit, or chiming in simply because the conversation has become too one-sided. This can be quite refreshing, especially in a group of like-minded individuals who seem to be droning on into an echo chamber, and it can also be quite unsettling if you’re not expecting it! Although, the commentary is usually delivered in such a pleasing way that isn’t vulgar or confrontational, so it can be somewhat confusing; you feel unsettled, but not necessarily offended by the Libran commentary. Or maybe you are offended, but you feel that you shouldn’t be, because nothing overtly rude or offensive was expressed. We all have Libra somewhere in our charts, can you identify where it is that you may have the tendency to play devil’s advocate, maybe just cuz? While we like to think that balance and harmony go hand in hand, sometimes rebalancing a situation will often create disharmony. Can you identify where it is in your life that you may tend to bring disharmony to an imbalanced environment, in an attempt to rebalance that environment?
Libra can also walk into a room and sense what is out of place, and what symmetry needs to be restored. One example of this could be those folks who arrange their bookshelves by color, rather than subject. One of my besties once told me that a friend of hers had recently rearranged her books by spine color and that it was very pleasing aesthetically; she then added, ‘you would never do that, would you?’ No! I absolutely would never do that, how can you find anything that way? Here we have two different priorities - one is seeking aesthetic beauty and harmony in their environment, and one is seeking a beautiful usefulness and elegance of organization in their environment. Neither is objectively wrong, but both are subjectively right. And both are expressions of Venus!
When thinking of Aphrodite Urania, I think of otherworldly, angelic beauty, like Beyoncé. Or I think of fine art, the “look but don’t touch” kind of art, haute cuisine that is plated with tweezers, haute couture that is not meant for everyday wear, the symphony, the opera, and the ballet. You know, fancy expressions of art, that seem to take a degree of maturity, education, experience, and refinement to fully appreciate.
As we said, Venus is the ruler of this Libra full Moon and Venus is currently located in the sign of Taurus, so let’s contrast the Libran Aphrodite Urania with the Taurean Aphrodite Pandemos, aka “earthly love”. Taurus is a Fixed Earth sign, so here we have a more solid, earthy expression of those same Venus significations. So instead of fine art, we have expertly woven textiles of natural fibers like silk, cotton, wool, or linen; I’d say all of the natural fiber arts would fall within this more earthy expression of Venus. Also, hand-crafted furniture that is made for use and made to last, and pottery or ceramics made for use as well; beautiful gardens and plantings are also expressions of Aphrodite Pandemos. Instead of haute cuisine, we have farm-to-table organic meals, ideally experienced al fresco, or in front of a piney-smelling hearth fire. Instead of haute couture, we have comfy, cozy hand-knitted wool sweaters and clothing made to last, and meant to be both lived in and luxuriated in. In place of the more refined music and dance that is meant to be politely observed and appreciated at the proper moments, we have the more earthy expressions of music like Irish, bluegrass, blues, and Indigenous Peoples drumming - the kind of music that invites you in to experience the music on a visceral, bodily level. The drum of the Indigenous People is a direct connection to the heartbeat of Mother Earth, which if you’ve ever been fortunate enough to experience IRL, you know what I’m talking about when I say experiencing the music viscerally. Venus in Taurus also doesn’t shy away from the ugly cry emotions the way that a more proper Venus in Libra might, and Venus in Taurus may in fact revel in the depth of emotion and all of its expressions, as raw and intense as that experience may be. And at this full Moon, it may get real raw, and real intense, since this Venus in Taurus is square to Pluto in Aquarius at 5°14’.
Pluto is like the undertow that can pull you under with no warning, and there is no use tiring yourself out fighting against that undertow, you gotta just ride it out and hope you resurface relatively unscathed sooner rather than later. Pluto is ultimately transformation, but like wise teacher Quinn once pointed out, before the caterpillar is transformed into the butterfly, there is a necessary stage of Goo. During the Goo stage, every part of the caterpillar is essentially annihilated and turned into Goo. This Goo will eventually reform again into the beautiful butterfly, but try telling that to the caterpillar, or even to the Goo. Only the butterfly will understand, and even the butterfly takes a while to cling to the chrysalis, stunned at what they’ve become, air-drying and straightening its wings before it can fly away. So if those annihilating, ugly cry emotions surface, ride them out, or even revel in them for a time if that feels appropriate. Feel the Goo, be the Goo, but hold onto the faith that you are in fact a mf butterfly in the making. You might be stunned with your soppy, wrinkly wings, clinging to the chrysalis for a while, but your wings will air-dry and straighten out eventually, and you will soon flit off, transformed, into the wide blue yonder.
Since at the full Moon we typically think of it as an excellent time to release what no longer serves us, what is being illuminated for you at this full Moon that wants to be released?
Can you tap into your Libra Spidey sense to identify what is out of place in your environment, and what may need to be released to bring more harmony to your environment?
What is being illuminated for you that you may need to release so that you are better able to experience those deep, raw emotions that are now ready to be integrated into yourself at a deeper level?
What do you feel you need to release so that you are better able to be open to grace?
What needs to be released so that you are better able to creatively author your life story?
What is it that you need to release so that you are better able to know on a visceral level that you are part of an ensouled Universe, and that your highest, most authentic Self is calling you forward into your most meaningful expression of yourself?
What path of self-awareness do these questions lead you down? Is it the same path every time, or are there offshoots to explore further?
When releasing during the full Moon, I like to make it a thing. It doesn’t have to be exactly at the time of the full Moon, it can be any time in the day or night leading up to it, which is typically what I prefer, but do what you are able. If you miss the night before, do it the night of or even the day or night after, as long as the Moon still appears full in the sky, I think the symbology is there for you to work with. Take some time and create a sacred space for yourself and whoever else would like to make it a thing with you. This doesn’t have to be elaborate. Simply sitting quietly and focusing on your breath with lightly closed eyes and spine as erect as possible, or focusing on the sounds in your environment and intentionally taking this moment to connect with yourself and with the nurturing energy of the Moon, which I like to think of as our Cosmic Mother. If you have a meditative practice, feel free to incorporate that into your full Moon practice, but let the Moon guide you, don’t get too far into your solar self of Doing, but allow yourself to simply exist in your lunar self of Being. If you like to really get into your ritual practice, please do make it as elaborate as you wish. At the end of my full Moon practice, I like to make a list of what I’m releasing. I simply write “I release:” at the top of a piece of paper, and then I write down everything that came up during my quiet time with myself. And then I burn that mofo! Safely and mindfully into my little metal cauldron - let’s not set our selves or homes or fields alight please. It really is very freeing to watch the smoke from the burning list curl up into the ethers. Some folks like to incorporate the water element by tossing the cooled ashes into a body of water afterwards, but I’m happy to scatter them to the winds, figuring they’ll make it to water someday. COOLED ashes, mind you, ok? Like totally, 100% completely cold ashes, the next day at the earliest, but preferably even later than that. And there, just like that you have made some space for your higher Self to lead you on to your highest and best expression of yourself. I’m a big proponent of gratitude, so I like to give thanks at the end of my practice, so give thanks to whatever Deity you feel is guiding you. If you are PTSD from CCD or whatever other childhood teachings were foisted upon you, and don’t like the thought of Deities, simply give thanks to yourself for making this time to connect with yourself and give thanks to the Universe for coexisting with you.
Because as my yoga teacher Jaki Nett likes to say that everything comes back to yoga, we’ll tie this practice into yoga philosophy, wherein which one of the eight limbs of yoga are the Niyamas. The Niyamas are virtues or individual disciplines which calm the disturbed mind. One of these five Niyamas is known as Isvara Pranidhana, or “surrender to the Divine of all our actions”. In surrendering, we allow for the Divine to work its own magic, co-creating with us.
