Pisces Lunar Eclipse 2025

The Pisces full Moon (and lunar eclipse) is exact at 15°22’ on Sunday, September 7 at 1:08 pm CST. While the energies of the full Moon (as well as the new Moon imho) are typically intense enough in and of themselves, along comes an eclipse which seems to say, “let’s turn this baby up to ELEVEN”. Before we get into the energies present in this particular full Moon lunar eclipse chart, let’s talk about the symbolism of an eclipse in general. A lunar eclipse occurs when the light of the Moon is obscured by the shadow of the Earth. Where there was once light, there is now suddenly and unexpectedly, darkness. Sadly our cultural bias tends toward vilifying the dark and glorifying the light. I could give you many examples of this, but I’ll save the lecture for another time, and allow you to come up with your own examples.

As my teacher Demetra George pointed out, the light of the Sun or Moon can symbolize the life force, and eclipses can therefore bring up emotions such as anxiety and fear, as that symbolic life force is being unexpectedly and suddenly obscured during an eclipse. It follows then that this fear or vilifying of the dark is understandable on simply a survival instinct level. If the life force is being obscured, what does that mean? We don’t actually know for sure, do we? We can imagine what happens when the life force is obscured, and we could probably really freak ourselves out with our imaginings if we are so inclined. But instead, what I will now do is to make a brief argument for glorifying the darkness, and give some suggestions for how we can utilize this eclipse season to consciously work with this “sacred darkness”, a fabulous term I came across in Steven Forrest’s Book of the Moon. While darkness can often evoke fear of death, the unknown or pain, darkness is also the place we go to seek solace. We close our eyes to calm our minds, to collect our thoughts, to sleep, to meditate, to pray, to rest in savasana, and to commune with the Divine. Out of the darkness of the womb or eggshell comes life - life literally comes from darkness. If this isn’t enough to argue that darkness should be glorified and held sacred, I could probably go on, but let’s just call that good enough for who it’s for.

So with a lunar eclipse, we have the Moon’s light obscured by the shadow of the Earth, unexpectedly bringing darkness where there was once light - symbolically, I feel that this is an optimal time to engage in some Shadow Work. Now, my dear Scorpionic husband was once intrigued by the term Shadow Work, and I admit, it does sound intriguing and sexy, like maybe some scantily clad young witches will be dancing around the fire at night calling in the shadows to assist them in their supernatural endeavors; I think I’ve seen that (ahem, culturally biased) movie. In the spirit of the current Virgo season and Virgo’s association with the Kore Goddess, let’s critique that scene with a dose of Virgoan practicality and point out that Shadow Work is simply taking a long hard look at our own selves - our behaviors, our beliefs, our thoughts, our attitudes, etc., and seeing how they may be contributing to our experiences. Not very sexy, but VERY useful. Also, not super fun because where we would rather blame others for our experiences, Shadow Work shows us where we may be contributing to our challenging experiences. But since we can only change our own behaviors, thoughts, beliefs and attitudes, and not those of others, again, it is a super useful tool. And hey, if you want to dance scantily clad around a fire while doing your own Shadow Work, go for it! There’s nothing wrong with sexy.

So we’re going to change up our full Moon practice for the lunar eclipse - what I’ll do is give you the dates of the last several eclipse seasons, and you can go back and see what was coming up for you at these times. Of course, it is easiest if you keep a journal, but not necessary in this day and age - you can simply take a look at your digital footprint for these times; emails, texts, photos, social media posts, and apps you may use to track your days can all be mined for information. Try to find a common thread and follow that thread back to your own self and your own behaviors, thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes, and from there you can develop a strategy to work with your own self to improve your experiences, and subsequently, the experiences of those around you. From there, I will describe the energies of this current lunar eclipse chart, and that may give you some tools to develop that strategy for working with your own self. We won’t bother with the houses, as the eclipses often show us an overarching theme that pervades every facet of our lives.

Since the eclipses follow one another, lunar eclipse (full Moon) and solar eclipse (new Moon), we typically call it simply Eclipse Season. So when looking at the dates of the prior eclipses, don’t think of it as just the one day - the day that the eclipse falls on - but think of it as the time leading up to the first eclipse, through the two weeks to the next eclipse and into the days following. Hopefully the following eclipse dates will give you enough to work with to establish a common thread, and from there to develop a strategy to work with your own self. Here are the dates of the last several eclipses, starting with the most current one, and working backwards:

  • Pisces Lunar Eclipse at 15°22’ on Sunday, September 7 2025, at 1:08 pm CST

  • Aries Solar Eclipse at 09°00’ on Saturday, March 29 2025, at 5:57 am CST

  • Virgo Lunar Eclipse at 23°56’ on Friday, March 14 2025, at 1:54 am CST

  • Libra Solar Eclipse at 10°03’ on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 1:49 pm CST

  • Pisces Lunar Eclipse at 25°40’ on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 9:34 pm CST

  • Aries Solar Eclipse at 19°24’ on Monday, April 8 2024, at 1:21 pm CST

  • Libra Lunar Eclipse at 05°07 on Monday, March 24, 2024, at 2:00 am CST

As far as the energies present in this Pisces lunar eclipse chart, Jupiter at 19°02’ of Cancer is the ruler of this full Moon in Pisces, and Jupiter is trining the full Moon in Pisces, as well as the North Node in Pisces (which, incidentally, signifies an eclipse - when the luminary is close to the Moon’s nodes). Jupiter is also sextiling the Sun at 15°22’ and the North Node at 18°20’ of Virgo, as well as squaring Mars at 20°19’ Libra. Since the Moon is in Pisces trining Jupiter in Cancer, let’s tune into that flowing, watery energy of compassion and nurturing, and when doing our shadow work, think of ourselves as our child or infant self, with our mother or adult self here to serve and help, here to help birth us into our new understanding of ourselves. With the square to Mars, let us seize the courage it takes to acknowledge our wounds, our foibles, and our conditioned responses that are likely born from defense mechanisms we developed long ago, before we were even able to form long term memories or rational thoughts. With Saturn’s recent retrograde back into the Water sign of Pisces for the last hurrah there for a while (Saturn will fully enter the Fire sign of Aries on February 26, 2026, and the next egress of Saturn into Pisces at 0° will occur in 2052), let’s utilize Saturn’s energy of discipline and duty to structure that Mars courage and action to compassionately acknowledge our own struggles, and to implement the strategies it will take to change our own thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that may be contributing to our struggles. Since Uranus has also recently stationed retrograde on September 5th at 01°27’ of Gemini, and will again, during this current retrograde period, be dipping back into the Earth sign of Taurus before eventually moving fully into the Air sign of Gemini again on April 25, 2026, let’s acknowledge this liminal space toggling between elements that can feel unsettling, and possibly shocking and sudden. With these retrogrades we may feel like we are revisiting a theme that has been surfacing in our experiences, attitudes, and thoughts. But let’s remember, the three outer planets (with Saturn tagging along as Neptune’s sidekick for now), even though they are reflecting the unsettled vibe of our reality by moving back and forth between Water and Fire and Earth and Air, they are still in that aspect pattern of the “small talent triangle”, whose symbolism is worth visiting once again as a reminder.

The “small talent triangle” as described by the Hubers in their book Aspect Pattern Astrology, is one of a “still developing talent”, with growth achieved by adapting, and a gradual development into a “distinctive and specialized talent” over time, with knowledge and skills gained by calmly absorbing experiences into our consciousness, and not necessarily through active striving. While Saturn will eventually move away from this small talent triangle, the outer planets will remain in this aspect pattern for several years, hopefully providing calming support for the social changes of this new Air and Fire era that we are slowly but surely entering. How can we as individuals calmly absorb experiences into our consciousness, with the aim of gaining knowledge and skills, while growing by remaining adaptable? This growth that we achieve by remaining adaptable may gradually develop into a distinctive or specialized talent over time. What does that look like to you? There are many years to ponder these ideas while this aspect pattern is in effect, so just put that in the old think tank and let it stew.

This Pisces lunar eclipse is the beginning of this current eclipse season, so tune in for the next installment of the series in a couple weeks - the Virgo solar eclipse at 29°05’. Happy shadow work to you, and remember - there’s nothing wrong with sexy.
