Aquarius Full Moon 2025
The Fixed Air of an Iowa cornfield in August
The Aquarius full Moon is exact at 16°59’ on Saturday, August 9 at 2:55 am CST. Saturn in Aries is once again the ruler of this full Moon in Aquarius, and Saturn is involved in an aspect pattern called a “kite”, involving all three outer planets, Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto, which form the “small talent triangle” part of the kite formation. Saturn is conjunct and still parallel Neptune in Aries, and both of these planets in Aries are sextile Uranus in Gemini and sextile Pluto in Aquarius, which follows that Uranus is trine Pluto. The final puzzle piece of this kite formation is Mars in Libra, which forms the “large talent triangle”, or Air Grand Trine with Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius. If you’ve been able to keep that all in your mind’s eye, or if you are looking at the full Moon chart like I am, you can see that Mars in Libra is opposite Saturn and Neptune in Aries. And if you’re able to look up the declination or latitude of the planets, you can see that Mars is also parallel Saturn and Neptune, bringing this aspect into an even tighter configuration.
To recap, the “small talent triangle” as described by the Hubers in their book Aspect Pattern Astrology, is one of a “still developing talent”, with growth achieved by adapting, and a gradual development into a “distinctive and specialized talent” over time, with knowledge and skills gained by calmly absorbing experiences into our consciousness, and not necessarily through active striving. While Saturn will eventually move away from this small talent triangle, the outer planets will remain in this aspect pattern for several years, hopefully providing calming support for the social changes of this new Air and Fire era that we are slowly but surely entering. How can we as individuals calmly absorb experiences into our consciousness, with the aim of gaining knowledge and skills, while growing by remaining adaptable? This growth that we achieve by remaining adaptable may gradually develop into a distinctive or specialized talent over time. What does that look like to you? There are many years to ponder these ideas while this aspect pattern is in effect, so just put that in the old think tank and let it stew.
The larger kite configuration, however, is fleeting, due to the faster movement of the personal planet Mars, so let’s talk about those energies, shall we? First let’s address the “large talent triangle”, or Air Grand Trine among Mars in Libra, Uranus in Gemini, and Pluto in Aquarius. Let’s stick with the Hubers and what they say about this configuration. Firstly, we know that since all three Air signs are involved, this means that all three modalities - Cardinal (Libra), Fixed (Aquarius), and Mutable (Gemini) - are working together in this trine aspect. This means that there are three possible ways of expressing this airy, intellectual and communicative energy - a drive toward initiating with Cardinal, a stick-to-it-ivness with Fixed, and an ability to pivot with Mutable. I love me a good nature metaphor, and the Hubers describe the large talent triangle as the tree that is bearing ripe fruit, waiting to be picked. And if that fruit isn’t picked, well, I could have my dear country-raised husband Brando tell you the nightmares involved with fruits falling unused to the ground and all of the problems that scenario causes, chief among them: drawing vermin (wasps!) and creating a less than ideal mowing environment. So y’all! Let’s pick that ripe fruit this full Moon, instead of letting it go to waste AND causing more problems for ourselves. Sure, we may look out at the tree with all the ripe fruits and think, “I’ll never eat all of those fruits, I’m not gonna pick those. If I do, I’ll just have to figure out a way to preserve them or give them away, or do something with them. I think I’ll just sit here and let nature take its course.” Complacency! A danger with the Grand Trine/large talent triangle configuration, since it seems like everything will always be trees full of ripe fruit, so why should we seize this particular opportunity? Well, just think of poor little kiddo Brando, having to fight off all manner of vermin (wasps!) after he neglected to do his chore of picking up the fruit that fell from the tree in a timely manner, and know that you’ll be doing yourself a favor if you take action now to address that ripe fruit. Because that fruit ain’t going nowhere, and it will likely morph into some less delectable form that you may not enjoy. But the wasps will!
And now, the two triangles come together to form a kite. What do the Hubers say about this kite aspect pattern? They say that the small triangle sits on top of the big triangle, and that this kite formation has an intrinsic motive of security, that is influenced by the principles of pleasure and harmony. Sounds pretty good so far, hunh? Well, there is also a feeling of ambivalent striving toward further development, which doesn’t sound as fun as security, pleasure and harmony, but has an energy of going from one extreme to another in Goldilocks fashion, to ultimately find that best choice, which is I suppose a seemingly ass-backwards way to get to security, pleasure and harmony. Faster-moving Mars in Libra is the “peak planet” of this kite configuration, and the planet to which the other planets in the aspect pattern - Uranus, Pluto, Saturn, and Neptune, must work towards the development of. So, this seems like we all have a lot of support from these heavy-hitting outer planets (plus Saturn) to put something into action - Mars being the planet of action, striving, vitality, and physical activity. If we consider the planets in the opposition as the topic of this configuration, we may ask ourselves:
What action can I take to make the ideal real?
What cause can I lend my vitality to as a spiritual warrior?
What can I strive towards to help dissolve the things that need to be dissolved, and help form the structures for those things that need to be built in their place?
Mercury is still retrograde in Leo, and is forming a harmonious aspect with all three “topic” planets of the kite, sextile Mars in Libra and trine Saturn and Neptune in Aries. Mercury is also opposite Pluto in Aquarius and sextile Uranus in Gemini, so perhaps we may be revising our approach, or rethinking our plan of action, going deeper into our thought processes and coming up with liberating, original and creative ideas in making the ideal real, in becoming that spiritual warrior, or in dissolving what needs to be dissolved so that a new structure can form in its place.
And finally back to security, pleasure and harmony - Venus in Cancer is parallel to and applying to conjunct Jupiter in Cancer, so let those lovely, blissful vibes inspire and infuse your inner and outer work at this full Moon in Aquarius, remaining open to grace and trusting in a greater plan.
Since at the full Moon, we typically think of it as is an excellent time to release what no longer serves us, we could think about what dynamic action we could take to release whatever it is that is presenting as an obstacle in our making the ideal real, or in our becoming that spiritual warrior, or in our dissolving what needs to be dissolved so that a new structure can form in its place.
In yoga philosophy, one of the eight limbs of yoga are the Niyamas. The Niyamas are virtues or individual disciplines which calm the disturbed mind. One of these five Niyamas is known as Isvara Pranidhana, or “surrender to the Divine of all our actions”. In surrendering, we allow for the Divine to work its own magic, co-creating with us.
