Gemini New Moon Intentions Event Registration
The Gemini New Moon of 2026 occurs on Sunday, June 14, at 9:54 pm CST, at 24°03’ Gemini.
The Sun and Moon aren’t making any close aspects to any other planets in this new Moon chart, but they are somewhat widely applying to a sextile to Chiron in Aries at 29°48, which we know can be an opportunity to engage with the recurring energy of that pesky wound that we’re carrying around with us that doesn’t ever seem to heal fully. With Chiron at the anaretic (aka last) degree of Aries, it may feel urgent that we engage with this energy in some way. Yayyyy…
When we look to the ruler of this new Moon in Gemini, Mercury is in Cancer at 18°31’. Mercury has just entered their shadow, passing the shadow degree of 16°19’ of Cancer on Friday, June 12, which simply means that Mercury has crossed the degree at which they will retrograde back to (and consequently station direct at) during the upcoming Mercury Retrograde. Let’s review the Mercury Retrograde visual:
Let’s say you’re driving down the street, looking for a parking space. You drive past an open space, thinking that you see another open space a little closer to your destination several parking spaces up the street. When you pull into that second space that is closer to your destination, you see that there is one of those little “don’t park here/out of order” hoods on the meter. So you pull out and reverse back to that first open space that you initially drove past. The hooded meter point at which you stop and reverse is the retrograde degree point. The parking space that you initially passed and eventually reverse back to is the shadow degree, or station direct point.
After you park and get out to go about your business, you eventually will return to your car to pull out of the parking space and drive forward again back up the street that you had reversed down, this time going forward toward the hooded meter parking space once again. That is similar to when Mercury will be going direct after the retrograde, going back over the patch of road which you have already traversed twice, and will now go forward over again a third time. So that little patch of road between the two open parking spaces - the first open parking space that you initially passed, and the hooded meter parking space where you stopped and reversed back, is the area that Mercury will be traversing three times total: once forward, once backward, and once more again forward. When Mercury initially goes forward past the degree point where the first parking space is, that is the point that we say Mercury enters their shadow.
So. Mercury has recently entered their shadow at this new Moon in Gemini, and due to the upcoming Mercury retrograde, will be spending an extended amount of time in Cancer - from June 1 through August 9. Because of this, we can look to Mercury’s extended stay in Cancer as a sort of thread to follow with how to engage with this Gemini new Moon; and possibly how to work with this opportunity to once again engage that unhealed wound each of us carries around with us.
Gemini is a mutable Air sign, interested in language, learning, networking, diversity, communicating, and gathering and disseminating information. Because Gemini is curious and likes to collect ALL of the data and information, there can sometimes be trouble excluding information. Armed with all of that data, there can be an inordinate ability to be of two minds, or to see both sides of any given situation. A possible by-product of this data overload we could say is represented by the Geminian desire or tendency to differentiate lies from truth through constant doubt. Truth for Gemini can also be thought of as a matter of perspective, or as somehow negotiable, which can lead to a kind of amorality. While being able to see both sides of a situation can assist us in cultivating empathy, it can also tip over into the more problematic “bothsidesism”. Just because you can objectively see, based on the facts of the situation, why a person may behave the way they do, that doesn’t mean that the behavior is appropriate, healthy, kind, or sustainable. Or something that any of us need to put up with - therapists are out there and available, and can help us all to differentiate healthy, appropriate behavior from unhealthy, inappropriate behavior.
There can be a lively, youthful lightness with Gemini, a versatility and adaptability that can be sociable, but also a little trickster-ish because of the affinity for games and changeability. Along with this Gemini emphasis on socializing or on intellectual pursuits can be an associated fear of emotional depths, and a sort of flight from emotional depths toward the intellectual realm, or a tendency to seek distractions from those emotional depths. The vibe of Gemini is to keep things light and agile, and to not get bogged down in anything heavy or deep like emotions. When things do get heavy or emotional, there can be a tendency to try to lighten the mood with distractions, or a tendency to intellectualize or rationalize away the emotions - otherwise known as Thinking about your emotions, rather than Feeling your emotions.
Because Gemini is ruled by Mercury, many of these Gemini significations overlap with Mercury - the OG forever young Trickster, Funster, and messenger of the Olympians. With Mercury spending the next month and a half in Cancer, we have an opportunity to explore these ideas a bit, as Cancer is all about the emotional depths, and does not intellectualize away or flee from the emotional depths - no-siree-bob. Mercury is on deck for some deep emotional exploration during this upcoming retrograde in Cancer!
Cancer is ruled by the Moon, and so we have at this Gemini new Moon a mutual reception between Moon in Gemini and Mercury in Cancer. It’s as if the Moon and Mercury have swapped apartments and are living in the other’s very different apartment. The Moon’s apartment is located in a sturdy old Victorian house that exudes a sense of nurturing safety. The house itself is set back, hidden away from the street and surrounded by protective trees and plantings and calming water features. The apartment space itself is filled with antiques, old family photos, and cozy nests in each room, made for hiding away from the world while you explore your emotional depths. The record shelf is stocked with music that helps you feel your emotions when you listen. The kitchen is filled with comforting smells, food, and drink - think hot chocolate, cozy soup, and fresh bread.
Conversely, Mercury’s apartment is located right in the middle of all the happenings downtown, near the top of a new, mid-rise building, and is open, airy, and spartan in design. There are concrete floors, floor to ceiling windows, and a breezy balcony with a birds-eye view of the town. The building is equipped with all of the latest digital upgrades, as is the apartment itself. The kitchen contains iced tea, sparkling water, energy bars, and cut fruit and vegetables, all made to grab and go. The furnishings are utilitarian and made for ease of use and movement; there are no cozy nests in which to burrow and hide away from the world.
How might Mercury feel initially moving from their open, airy, mid-rise apartment in the middle of all the happenings into the Moon’s cozy, hidden apartment nestled among the water features, trees and plantings? Might they feel a bit restless or claustrophobic? Might they feel hemmed in by the cozy nests, old photos and antiques? How might Mercury learn a new way to express themselves after spending some time in this apartment? Might they be encouraged by the calming water features and protective trees and plantings outside to give up the guarded protection of their emotions through intellectualization or social distraction? Might they grab a cup of hot chocolate, put on a Rufus and Chaka Khan record, and cuddle under an antique quilt to experience and explore some feels?
All this to say that at this Gemini new Moon, we will all have the opportunity to intentionally slow down and go back over our style or way of perceiving, thinking and communicating, and to possibly make it more sensitive and tender over the course of the next month and a half that Mercury will be in Cancer. Since at the time of the Gemini new Moon, Mercury is also applying to sextile Mars in Taurus at 20°08’, we may have the opportunity to harness the courage to communicate from our emotions. Perhaps we can set an intention to make use of this extended Mercury in Cancer signature by courageously practicing nurturing self-talk. I’m putting the focus on nurturing self-talk because I think many of us tend to talk to ourselves in ways that we would never think to talk to anyone else, especially our friends and loved ones. So let’s use this time to check ourselves with our self-talk, and ask ourselves, would I talk to my friend, child, spouse, or parent this way? If not, then let’s don’t speak to ourselves in that way, either.
You may have experienced some harsh self-talk recently, as Mercury is currently separating from a square to Saturn in Aries at 12°58’, which was exact on June 10. With Saturn, we are in the realm of “should”. Now, I’m not saying that all shoulds are bad - not at all - it is simply in the way that we use the shoulds that can be problematic. For example, if you say to yourself, “I should stop being such a lazy loser and make myself some supper, instead of eating crackers. Again.” - that’s not ok. A better use of that “should” would be “I should make myself some supper because I need vitamins and nutrients to fuel and sustain myself and all that I want and need to do with my awesome life that I have been blessed with”
I have a memory from childhood of being at a game at Wrigley Field with my dad, and some folks in the crowd were having words with one another, and someone quipped, “Hey! You kiss your mother with that mouth?”, which I absolutely loved and thought was Pure Genius. 10-year-old Kathleen tried her best to implement that saying back home in Iowa, but alas, it doesn’t quite pack the same punch that it does when said by a grown man with a Chicago accent. So if you find yourself engaging in harsh or cruel self-talk over the next month and a half while Mercury is in Cancer, ask yourself (in a grown man Chicago accent) “Hey! You kiss your mother with that mouth?" And then reframe what you are saying in a way that is loving and nurturing, so that any mother would be pleased and proud to be kissed by that mouth.
Other transits occurring in this Gemini new Moon chart include Uranus in Gemini at 02°52’ square the lunar nodes at 02°16’ Pisces (NN) and Virgo (SN). This can indicate a willingness to shake things up in order to move forward toward your highest and best self, or toward your soul’s purpose. There may even perhaps be a willingness to let go of things, people, or situations that no longer serve your best interests or your soul’s growth. Uranus is the energy of sudden shocks, rebellion, and a-ha! moments, so you may surprise yourself or others with what you’re willing to let go of in order to move forward at this new Moon.
Venus is newly in Leo at 01°56’ at the new Moon, applying to oppose Pluto in Aquarius at 05°10’, sextile Uranus in Gemini at 02°52’, and trine Neptune in Aries at 04°16’, which means that Venus is activating that outer planet talent triangle that we’ve been talking about in previous blog posts. Venus in Leo is FABULOUS, and don’t let the haters make you think otherwise. She can be warm, loyal, generous, demonstrative, and joyfully creative - what’s not to like? I for one am excited for Venus to be in Leo from June 13 - July 9. Venus will have to contend with that opposition to Pluto, which could bring up issues around power, intensity, drama, or obsession in our creative pursuits or personal relationships. At the new Moon, Venus is more closely applying to sextile Uranus in Gemini first, then applying to trine Neptune in Aries second before the opposition to Pluto third, so look for an opportunity to think outside the box with regard to your creative pursuits or personal relationships, and don’t hesitate to go full-on fantasy fairy glamour in those areas as well, before contending with the possible intensity of the Pluto opposition, which could very well wind up being transformative. Eventually.
