Libra New Moon 2026

The upcoming Libra new Moon at 17°21’ Libra takes place on Saturday, October 10 at 10:50 am CST.

But first! You guessed it - an exciting new announcement!

Steph from Thrift Bandit Vintage has graciously agreed to share her rad space with me for conducting in-person astrology sessions (and also with Dawn Frary of Folkloracle for in-person Tarot readings). Which is super right on time, since I just recently learned from Dr. Justin Sipla of the Carver College of Medicine that “vibing” aka interactional synchronization is a real thing that happens when we are in close proximity to one another, looking each other in the eye and communicating. We literally can get on the same wavelength as our neurons start to fire together. Pretty cool that we’ve got some scientific proof for something many of us have known all along! Speaking of vibes - Thrift Bandit Vintage has ‘90s Hall Mall vibes, in the vein of Betty’s Bad Clothes, Mohair Pear, and that other shop that was never open, but boy oh boy when it was! I bought the Single Most Perfect Dress I’ve ever owned at that shop. It was so perfect that once at a House of Large Sizes show, Barb Schilf came up to me and told me she loved my dress. I was star-struck and said something awkward like, “Thanks, I bought it from your competitor in the Hall Mall.” Anyway, book an appointment and come see me at Thrift Bandit Vintage once I figure out a good schedule - I’m thinking of starting with Saturday morning appointments.

Back to this Libra new Moon - as we said at the Autumnal Equinox chart: with the energy of Libra, we have Cardinal Air - an initiatory energy, a proactive impulse toward bringing beauty and harmony into the world. Again, if we conjure up the image of Lady Justice, we see that she is blindfolded and carrying a scales - but more importantly - she also carries the sword of discernment and enforcement. Hindu goddess Durga also carries a sword, which for her symbolizes wisdom, clarity, and detachment from illusion. Durga’s sword is used to cut away anything that takes the Seeker away from their true spiritual nature. I like both of these images for this Libra season, but I liken the image of Lady Justice specifically to the sign of Libra. Libra is not only the impartial weighing of options, it is also enforcing the changes that need to be made to bring harmony and beauty into the world. With the energy of Libra, there is a concern with composition, and so this enforcement may be put together in a way that is maneuvering and charming, so that we may not even notice the possible ouchy swordiness of the enforcement. At this Libra new Moon, let’s once again contemplate some ideas that these two powerful feminine figures represent:

  • How can we purposely and creatively use our own figurative swords of enforcement to compose more balance and harmony in our lives?

  • How can we use Durga’s sword of clarity and detachment from illusion to cut away anything that takes us away from our higher Self?

Now let’s look to Libra’s ruler Venus in this Libra new Moon chart. Venus is currently retrograde at 07°25’, moving backwards through the zodiac on her 40 day and 40 night underworld journey. As I never tire of repeating - one of my teachers Carol Ferris says, “Venus in Scorpio knows her own mind”; and here is where we may begin to encounter that swordiness we talked about - Mars the warrior is after all the ruler of Scorpio!

Venus is currently an evening star, visible in the sky until around October 17, when she will no longer be visible for a time. It is said that when Venus is no longer visible in the sky, she is undergoing a magical transformation through her descent into the underworld; she is being reborn in the fires of the Sun. The time of Venus retrograde can be thought of as a time to go inside, to reflect, review, reset, and set the stage for renewal. With Venus in Scorpio, we might imagine that evening star Venus may be willing to go deep into her style of relating, her relationships with others, her relationship with money, her likes and dislikes. Venus in Scorpio will be unearthing anything that isn’t working, cleansing away the mess that may have accumulated in these areas of her life and psyche. It will likely be an underworld journey that may be unpleasant at times, but she will emerge from her journey victorious, ready to stand steady in herself, improved in her ability to be in relationship with others in a way that works for her.

I refer to Venus as “her”, but if you attended my Venus Retrograde Class at Harvest Preserve, you heard multiple examples from different ancient peoples, illustrating the gender shifts that often accompany the story of Venus’s retrograde journey. Therefore, Venus retrograde is also a good time to reflect on our own experience or expression of gender, with awareness and intentional focus - a conscious claiming of both the masculine and feminine energies inside all of us, no matter how we identify along the gender spectrum. This reflection could also include even more nuanced themes along these same lines, such as the potential for generative creativity, union, and the conscious embodiment of these energies.

Some Venus concerns include:

  • love

  • relationship

  • art & artists

  • romance

  • values

  • money

  • pleasure

  • self-worth

  • beauty

  • creativity

Venus is concerned with these themes, no matter what sign she is in; but in Scorpio there is an edge to Venus that I find particularly charming. Venus in Scorpio will, like any Venus, work to be in relationship, but in order to be in relationship, Venus in Scorpio needs to get down to the real nitty-gritty of any relationship dynamic. She will not simply go along to get along, or overlook questionable behavior out of fear of losing the relationship. Venus in Scorpio is sensitive and intuitive, but it is the sensitivity that is strong enough to be vulnerable, knowing that true intimacy requires vulnerability. Venus in Scorpio is acutely aware that both wounding and growth can occur right at the razor’s edge of instinct and vulnerability.

Oh and would you looky here at this aspect in the Libra new Moon chart:

  • Venus Rx at 07°25’ Scorpio conjunct Mercury in Scorpio at 12°18’ and square to both Mars in Leo at 07°13’ and Pluto in Aquarius at 03°04’

If we remember, Venus was square to Pluto at the Autumnal Equinox chart as well, but now we have Mars in Leo getting in on the action - fine swordiness abounds! With Mercury also within arms-reach of Venus, the mind, imagination, or communication may assist us somehow in navigating this intense configuration of planets. Somewhere recently I heard the notion that journaling and meditation can also be thought of as forms of communication or listening, which I find intriguing. What think you?

As was discussed previously: with Pluto, we have the probing intensity, and with relational Venus, that intensity can show up somehow in our expression of Venus - in the way that we relate to others, or to beauty, art, creativity, pleasure, or money. Some examples of this could be:

  • Shaking people out of their delusions with some Real Talk around Venusian themes

  • A willingness to face uncomfortable truths with regard to Venusian themes

  • Making space for intense or painful conversations to happen around Venusian themes (doubly so now that Mercury is close by)

  • Rubbing some folks the wrong way by coming on too strong - creatively, relationally, financially or romantically

This Venus-Pluto square is echoing that Venus placement in Scorpio, as Scorpio has a Plutonian feel to it - that willingness to look under the hood and witness the mucky mess, to dig deep to get to the sensitive issues that need to be brought into the light to be washed cleaned and healed. Scorpio’s water energy is like the water that irrigates the wound to prevent infection - nothing else can clean so thoroughly or effectively, but it’s likely gonna take some time and work. And it’s definitely gonna be uncomfortable - possibly stinging a bit in the process. If we translate that idea to these current energies, it may be that some deep cleaning of some Venusian expression in our lives is in order - our romantic relationships, sure, but also our many other one-to-one relationships, our finances, our self-worth, our creative endeavors, or our experience of beauty or pleasure.

With Mars in Leo also participating in the t-square, we could find the courage to do this intense witnessing of the muck. We may also be spurred to action somehow once we have dug deep to get to the mess of it all. But hold up, yo! Venus is still retrograde, and still visible in the sky even - not even yet invisible and doing battle in the underworld. Try to sit with these energies, let them percolate, don’t go rushing out to make all of the changes just yet. There are many days yet of Venus’s journey, and this time is the time of allowing the issues to come to the surface for examination and for developing awareness around certain aspects of our nature as it relates to our Venus expression. The retrograde period is a time of quiet introspection that takes place on a deep level, an observation of our own and others behaviors and responses, while also participating in life. Think of it as an opportunity to become aware of our Venus challenges, to correct, heal, and eventually to transform.

The retrograde period could indicate a magnification of our interior experience around our relationships, finances, self-worth, or creative expression. We may be more willing to witness the less pleasant (possibly horrific) parts of our Venus expression, but try to do so in a loving way that understands that life is messy for all of us. This can be done with the aim of bringing those issues to light, to be dealt with, so that we can bring some more balance to ourselves and these facets of our life. While love and relationship seems like it should be all light comfort and pleasantness (we’ve been sold a lie, people!), it’s actually much more complex than all that. To love means to be willing to address the less pleasant aspects of life and relationship, which takes tremendous courage and vulnerability. Which, let’s face it - it’s terrifying! But Venus in Scorpio is here to show us the way, with her intense friend Pluto in objective Aquarius giving us a helpful nudge from the underworld. “Nothing personal!” Pluto seems to say as he drags us down into the muck. Mars in Leo is also now here to show us the courage of the lioness as we descend with Venus into the depths of our own Venus expressions.

Another aspect of note in this Libra new Moon chart includes some helpful energies:

  • Mars in Leo at 07°13’ trine both Neptune at 02°35’ and Saturn at 10°49’ Aries:

Here Mars can lend some active flow to this Libra new Moon chart, catalyzing an ease of form, focus, discipline and organization as well as intuitive guidance in our creative pursuit of awareness. Perhaps we can set aside some time each day to reflect on this journey of Venus, with the aim of channeling the energies for growth and healing around our Venus expressions. Let this time of reflection invite quiet and receptivity - think of grasping as a barrier to receptivity.

To add some more lightness to the intensity, let’s look to another aspect in this Libra new Moon chart:

  • Sun and Moon at 17°21’ Libra sextile Jupiter in Leo at 21°15’:

I like this opportunity for magnanimous Jupiter to bestow some wisdom at this Libra new Moon. Allow your mind to expand and remain optimistic about your journey to the underworld with Venus retrograde. Think of it as a daring adventure!
